What Not To Say To A Pregnant Woman

Mila Kunis was recently on Jimmy Kimmel and had a little stint about "Men, stop saying we're pregnant". Having been pregnant twice- I have pregnancy sympathy for her and totally understand. To add to her feelings- I've continued with a couple of things my husband would say that didn't set well with me at the time.

"Your body is ruined." That was quickly re-worded after I glared at him to "I mean, your body is not going to be the same. Everybody knows that." I understand that my body is not going to be the same and I'm fine with that. To say my body is ruined does not sit well with me. Good try on the back tracking but I heard you loud and clear the first time. Something you don't say to a pregnant woman. Instead try: "You're always going to be beautiful in my eyes".

"You're snoring". Yes, I am- but that means I'm sleeping. Sorry that our growing baby is pushing all my organs up on my diaphram where I can barely breath, causing me to snore. Between the heartburn and back ache- I'm lucky to get some sleep. You don't have to wake me up to tell me because it's not going to go away. My husband starting bringing home ear plugs from work. "You're snoring" is something you don't say to a pregnant woman. Instead try: Nothing- don't say anything.

"Stop complaining". I'm not complaining just to complain. I'm complaining for sympathy. I want you to know that I don't feel good, my feet are the size of an elephant's, I can't sleep, I'm so hot, my face is broken out and swollen, my back aches, I can't walk 10 feet without breathing hard, I have the worst heartburn, and I could go on and on. When I'm complaining I just want you to know that I'm miserable and I would like some help or sympathy. We can get a little needy when we are pregnant. "Stop complaining" is something you don't say to a pregnant woman. Instead try: "Yes dear or I'm sorry" and leave it at that. (Or try to mend whatever she is complaining about".)

"You're going to eat all that". Yes, I am. I know I'm going to be miserable and want to throw up afterwards- but sometimes you can't stop eating that whole gallon of ice cream. Yes, I'm going to complain about it afterwards and ask you why you let me do it. "You're going to eat all that" is something you don't say to a pregnant woman. Instead try: "I love you" if the subject gets brought up.

So to sum it up really- watch what you say to a pregnant woman. We already know all this- we don't want to hear it from somebody else. You don't really want to mess with a pregnant woman's hormones. On a side note: My husband is still alive and I love him very much.

Successful Online Selling Tips- Good Quality Photos

Selling on an online markeplace, such as The Baby Burp, can be a lucrative and rewarding business. It is a very competitive business with millions of other products and sellers trying to compete to sell their product over yours. You can become a top seller if you really put effort and time into it and make your product stand out. That is really the just of it. How can you make your product stand out and get sold? If you are just throwing a product in a marketplace hoping to get noticed- that is all that will happen. I'm going to start a series of successful online selling tips outlining what the successful sellers are doing to get their products sold. 

Photos

The number one thing you can do to sell your product is to have a great photo of your product. There are people who simply refuse to buy online because if they can't see it in person, if it's not tangible, they won't dare buy it. So the next best thing is visual. Make sure they are getting a good representation of your product by the picture and description. We will talk about the description later, but for now focus on what you can do to get a good quality photo. 

1. Use a good quality camera that will give you high resolution images.

2. Use good lighting when taking the photo. (outside is always best)

3. Use good props.

4. Hire a professional.

Some of the best sellers take time and spend money to hire a professional photographer, especially if they have models. Sometimes a professional just has a better eye and can direct the models for a good photo that will represent your product.

Photoshop. If you don't have photoshop- there are many simple edits you can use to get a better picture of your product. If Aunt Lisa or the family dog isn't in the photo to help sell it, crop them out. Crop photos to solely have the product in it. Use the autocorrect to brighten or adjust the photo. There are many free photo APPs that can help with photos.  Just don't go overboard with the photo- adding glitter hearts and stickers can do more damage than good. Think clean, streamlined, and clear.

Another important thing to think about is to pay attention to the sites uploader requirements. For instance, on The Baby Burp, there are dimension requirements that best suit the site's photo uploader. Big images should be 283 x 269. For best quality results- take the time to adjust your photo to those specifications. Otherwise- the photo uploader will adjust it for you and the quality of the photo can become distorted. 

Lastly, if you have up to 5 additional photos to show off your product- use them. This goes back to being visual and trying to make up for the fact that buyer cannot have a tangible experience. Show different angles of the product, show the inside, show the back, and show how it is used.

This is just one of many online selling tips. If you're going to do any- this is the most important. If a buyer can't get a good representation of the product you are trying to sell, they will not buy it. Plain and simple. 

The Baby Burp: Sayings from my son about his Dad

"Daddy, you make my heart happy!" has got to be my favorite and the most endearing thing I have heard my son say to my husband. The bond between my kids and their daddy is amazing and little sayings like this just makes my heart melt.  Even though my son is two, here are a few other things that he has said to me about his daddy that proves that children understand love at a young age.

1) "Daddy is silly", he says this in a lovingly way when my husband is goofing around dancing, singing, playing pretend with him.  He loves to be goofy like his daddy.

2.) "Daddy is a good guy", my son is becoming fascinated with superheros and understands there usually a hero and a villain.  He thinks his daddy is a hero.

3. "I'm helping to save people like daddy". My husband works at the ERT (Emergency Response Team) at work and is a firefighter and emergency medical tech. I see my son pretending to be a firefighter when playing and he somehow understands that daddy is a hero too, even if he isn't superman. He looks up to his daddy.

4. "Daddy works to help me". Awww. He knows his daddy works a lot and often misses him during the day or night because my husband works shift work. I'm guessing one of us told him that daddy has to go to work to provide. I'm sure he doesn't fully understand- but he will one day. He knows that daddy is at work for him.

5. "Daddy, I love you" Of course this is the saying that truly makes your heart melt when your little ones say this. We want to be loved as parents and when your little one utters those words- you know they mean it and it makes being a parent all worth it. He knows his daddy loves him too.

When I became a new mom I found that it was especially hard to devote time to my baby with a full-time job, graduate school and just dealing with the many challenges of becoming a parent. As time went on I started noticing that my son, Parker, was not doing things that other kids his age were. These including playing, talking, crawling and even walking at a rate that was considered “delayed.” I did however notice my son doing things that were out of the ordinary, such things as:  repetitive behaviors, tending to become irritable when in busy social situations and not interacting with kiddos his own age.

Naturally as a mother I felt scared and as if I had done something terribly wrong to hinder my son’s development. I wanted to bond with my baby son and experience the joy of development and progress. I started researching, reading and talking to friends and family about what was happening with Parker. Throughout this process I found that massage was a way for Parker and me to bond when the “normal” avenues of bonding were not available.

My youngest son inspired me to create Nursing Scarves. When I became pregnant with him, I knew from the start that I wanted to breastfeed. I began looking for a nursing cover that I would be able to use in public. The covers that I found just wasn't what I was looking for. I stumbled upon "Nursing Scarves" and just fell in love. What's better than wearing a scarf that all you have to do is open it up once your baby is ready to eat. 3)Tell us about you/your family

I have been with the love of my life since 1999 and married since 2007! Our first born is our little miracle baby because we tired to conceive him for over 3 years and he was a micro-preemie, born at 26 weeks weighing 1 lb 8 oz in Aug 2010 (I pumped for him for 6 months). Our second son was born in March 2013 and he is the perfect addition to our little family. I'm the proud creator of Kismet Love Collection and everyday I count my lucky stars because I'm able to work from home and I get to be with my kids. When I breastfed my second son, my nursing scarf was my "go to" item, it went with me everywhere. I breastfed him in the parks, Dr. offices, airport, airplane, restaurants, mall, friends and family homes and the scarf gave me the privacy that I needed. I'm all about breastfeeding in public but I didn't feel comfortable in showing my breasts to the public. The scarf gave me the confidence that I needed to nurse in public. I truly love creating Nursing Scarves and I hope that my scarves gives other breastfeeding mommies the confidence and privacy that they need to breastfeed their little cutie pies in public.

I'm Jill, dedicated mom to four awesome kids (a boy followed by three girls), spunky wife to my fantastic husband, unashamed coffee lover, and proud Bostonian.  In my former life, I was a trained bioengineer who worked as a Sales Director for a leading scientific instrument company, struggling to find a better balance between financial ease and family happiness. The Baby Burp: My Gag Worthy Week

                        

Having to deal with sick babies over the weekend made me realize that some of the things I do as a mommy would have made the pre- mommy me gag. Here are a few things I did over the past week alone that would make anyone cringe (unless your a professional - hardcore mommy). 

1. Wipe a runny nose with your bare hands. This is what happens when you don't have immediate access to tissues or wet wipes in public.

2. Wipe a runny nose with your shirt. Reference number one.

3. Get thrown up on and catch vomit with your bare hands. Immediate shower.

4. Clean up poop out of the bath tub. One of the most gag worthy things I hope to never do again.

5. Realize an hour later there is poop on me from that diaper blow out earlier. Couldn't locate the source of the smell.

Yep, gross gross gross but I guess it comes with the territory of being a mommy. I wouldn't change my life for the world. What are some gag worthy experiences you have had with your kids? We would love to hear!
